The Long Island Elite Donates $200k to SIBSPlace to Support Siblings Facing a Traumatic Experience
Throughout 2021, the Long Island Elite has continued to focus its charitable efforts to make an impact locally on Long Island. The network and philanthropy group announced its most recent donation of $200,000 to its not-for-profit, charity partner of the year, SIBS Place. This is the largest single donation this group of business professionals has provided in its 19 year history. With this donation, the Long Island Elite has now raised more than $1,000,000 for local Long Island not-for-profit organizations.
“It is amazing what a group of motivated individuals looking to make an impact on Long Island can do,” said Long Island Elite President Michael Stern. “Even during this continued pandemic year, the membership of the Long Island Elite joined together to make the largest single donation in its history. These funds will go a long way in assisting SIBSPlace on its mission to provide opportunities for empowerment, stability and coping skills to children in need. Congratulations to all who made this a record-setting year!”
SIBSPlace follows a psychosocial support model based in prevention theory. Focus and attention are placed on the challenges the well sibling faces in coping with their emotional response to having a brother, sister, or parent with cancer or another devastating illness. Living with an ill loved one puts these children at risk for intense anxiety, mostly due to the loss of control of their home situation. Through art, music and verbal expressive activities the SIBSPlace program designs opportunities for the children to build meaningful relationships, externalize feelings and have them validated while connecting with peers living through similar circumstances.
