The Long Island Elite Announces Rich Tavarez as its 2022 Member of the Year
The Long Island Elite (LIE) is proud to recognize Rich Tavarez as its 2022 Member of the Year. Tavarez was awarded this honor for his contributions to the networking and philanthropy group during a year of growth and change. Tavarez, who holds a dual role as a member of both the Board and DEI committee, has focused on diversifying the organization’s membership as well as providing his unique perspective related to inclusion for all. He is also a Board member of former LIE Charity Partner of the Year Long Island Reach.
Tavarez is a Community Relations Officer with Jovia Financial Credit Union. In his 21 years of banking and grassroots community development experience, he has held leadership roles with other major institutions such as TD Bank, JP Morgan Chase, Bank of America and Capital One. Tavarez served on a team of business bankers who worked with customers to fund more than 20 million in PPP loans during the COVID-19 pandemic. These funds brought much needed relief to struggling small business owners on Long Island and across the United States.
With his experience in the financial and banking industry, Tavarez now focuses on bridging the financial literacy gap for all communities. This especially includes those who are underserved and lack access to this education. He is also extremely passionate about mentoring our youth on the subject.
Tavarez credits his family as a critical component of his personal and professional progression and his connections with invaluable mentors and advocates, both in the LIE and other organizations, throughout his career. He was born in Washington Heights, NY, is the youngest of two siblings and is of Puerto Rican and Dominican decent. He resides in Lynbrook with his wife, four children and dog.
